In spite of this issue, few studies have been carried out on the ramifications of labeling in the educational contexts, in general, and EFL classrooms, in particular. The current study is an attempt to investigate the occurrence possibility of negative labeling and how such labels eventually influence students’ psychological/academic potentials. Since it was not possible to expose the students to the experience of negative labels in their real situations, the 100 high-school female participants of the study were asked to make predictions on social/academic success of a fictitious student who was labeled as dyslexic (Hunt, 2006). Besides, they were given a modified 11-item questionnaire (Mwania & Muola, 2013) about their experiences of being labeled. The participants were also asked to fill in the Coopersmith Self-esteem Inventory (SEI) (1967) to determine if there is a relationship between their labeling experiences, their self-esteem and their reported academic achievements. The collected data was then processed using SPSS. The findings of the study indicate that teacher’s negative labeling was significantly related with students’ self-esteem, their academic potentials, and their future life/success/expectations.The study bears some significant implications for teachers’ education since the findings show that the negative ramifications of labeling in EFL contexts should be taken into more serious consideration in teaching.}, keywords = {negative labeling,academic achievement/potential,Self-esteem}, title_fa = {برچسب‌زنی منفی به عنوان عامل مهم روان‌شناسی در تدریس به فراگیران زبان انگلیسی به عنوان زبان خارجی}, abstract_fa = {برچسبزنی به عنوان یکی از متغیرهای روانشناختی ممکن است تاثیر درازمدتی بر زندگی ما بگذارد و همچنین بنا به نظر ارکل (2009)، دستاوردهای علمی دانشآموزان ممکن است بر اثر برچسبزنی معلم به صورت جدی تضعیف گردد. اما علیرغم این قضیه، پژوهشهای اندکی در باره عواقب برچسبزنی منفی به صورت کلی در زمینههای آموزشی و به ویژه در کلاسهای آموزش زبان انگلیسی به عنوان یک زبان خارجی صورت پذیرفته است. پژوهش حاضر کوششی است برای بررسی وجود احتمالی برچسبزنی منفی و اینکه چگونه چنین برچسبهایی در نهایت بر توان علمی/روانشناختی دانشآموزان تاثیرگذار است. به سبب آنکه قراردادن واقعی دانشآموزان در معرض تجربه برچسبزنی منفی میسر نبود، از 100 نفر آزمودنی پژوهش خواسته شد که درباره آینده علمی/ اجتماعی یک دانشآموز خیالی که برچسب خواندن پریشی خورده است نظر بدهند (هانت، 2006).   همچنین از آن ها خواسته شد به پرسشنامه تعدیل شده 11 موردی ( موانیا و موالا، 2013) در باره تجربه برچسب خوردن خود پاسخ دهند. از شرکتکنندگان همچنین خواسته شد پرسشنامه عزت نفس کوپراسمیت (1967) را پاسخ دهند تا مشخص شود که آیا رابطهای بین تجربه برچسب خوردن و عزت نفس آنها و گزارش دستاورد علمی آنها وجود دارد یا خیر. سپس دادههای گرد آوری شده از طریق نرم افزار اس پی اس اس مورد بررسی قرار گرفت. نتایج نشان داد که برچسبزنی منفی معلم به صورت معنیداری با عزت نفس دانشآموزان، توان علمی آنها و زندگی/انتظارات/موفقیت آینده آنها رابطه دارد. پژوهش حاضر کاربردهای مهمی  برای آموزش معلمان دربردارد چرا که نتایج نشان داد عواقب منفی برچسبزنی در زمینه آموزش زبان انگلیسی به عنوان زبان خارجی باید بیشتر مورد توجه قرارگیرد. }, keywords_fa = {برچسب‌زنی منفی,دستاورد/پتانسیل علمی,عزت نفس}, url = {https://ilt.atu.ac.ir/article_7228.html}, eprint = {https://ilt.atu.ac.ir/article_7228_ccaaf42764da3878280af9bb30c4fc5d.pdf} }
