However, careful decisions should be made as regards to the cultural content of materials and the ways in which culture is represented. This study was an attempt to deconstruct the patterns of cultural representation and intercultural interactions in Interchange textbooks, an ELT textbook series taught to English as a foreign language (EFL) learners in Iran. Using content analysis of texts and images and with the focus on nationality, gender and race, it examined how different cultures were reflected in Interchange 1, Interchange 2, Interchange 3, and whether cultural bias or inequality was present. The quantitative and qualitative data analysis revealed that the white male group was dominant in all three textbooks. And, to use Kachru’s (1985) terms, inner, outer and expanding circle nationalities were represented in the textbooks, with the expanding circle constituting the major nationality, but American culture of inner circle was predominant. Additionally, the interactions were mainly limited to superficial aspects of the target culture although these textbooks sought to show various intercultural interactions. Dominance of male and white characters and the US culture indicated inequality in race and gender, and the superficial treatment of culture in the textbooks. Less attention to the hybrid culture and deeper level of intercultural aspects, i.e. critical reflections, in the textbooks suggests that the materials be supplemented by EFL teachers’ constructive discussion of the cultures that interact.  }, keywords = {Culture,intercultural competence,Textbooks,Interchange,bias}, title_fa = {بررسی نمود فرهنگی در کتاب‌های زبان اینترچنج}, abstract_fa = {امروزه زبان و فرهنگ به عنوان عناصر تشکیل دهنده یکدیگر در نظر گرفته میشوند. بنابراین کتابهای آموزش زبان انگلیسی بایستی مولفههای فرهنگی را در برگیرند و توانش بینفرهنگی را ارتقا دهند. با وجود این،  تصمیمات دقیق باید با توجه به محتوای فرهنگ در منابع آموزشی و راههای ارائه فرهنگ اتخاذ گردد. در این تحقیق، تلاش شده است که الگوهای نمود فرهنگی و تعاملات بینفرهنگی در کتابهای اینترچنج (به عنوان مجموعه کتابهای آموزش زبان انگلیسی برای فراگیران زبان انگلیسی به عنوان زبان خارجی در ایران)  تحلیل شود. این تحقیق با استفاده از تحلیل محتوا و تصاویر و با توجه به ملیت˓ جنسیت˓ نژاد، به چگونگی نمود فرهنگهای مختلف در کتابهای اینترچنج 1 ، اینترچنج 2 و اینترچنج 3 ، و وجود و عدم وجود تبعیض و نابرابری پرداخته است. تحلیل کمی و کیفی دادهها مشخص نمود که گروه مردان (مذکر) سفید پوست به لحاظ فراوانی در هر سه کتاب غالب میباشند و در قالب مدل کچرو (1985)،  هر سه حلقه درونی˓ بیرونی و گسترنده دارای نمود فرهنگی میباشند؛ لیکن نمود ملیتی حلقه گسترنده و فرهنگ آمریکایی از حلقه درونی وجه غالب میباشد. علاوه بر این˓ گرچه در این کتابها ارائه تعاملات بینفرهنگی در سطوح مختلف مد نظر بوده، لیکن تعاملات به طور عمده محدود به مولفههای سطوح ظاهری فرهنگ زبان مقصد (انگلیسی) بوده است و غالب بودن فراوانی مردان سفید پوست و فرهنگ ایالات متحده آمریکا حاکی از نابرابری در نژاد و جنسیت و پرداختن برجنبههای ظاهری (فیزیکی) فرهنگ در این کتابها می باشد. عدم توجه کافی به سطوح آمیزشی فرهنگ و جنبههای عمیقتر بینفرهنگی (بازتابهای انتقادی فرهنگ) در این کتابها، حاکی از نیاز به بحثهای سازنده درباره تعاملات فرهنگی توسط مدرسان زبان انگلیسی برای تکمیل محتوی این مواد درسی است.}, keywords_fa = {فرهنگ˓ توانش ب‌فرهنگی˓ کتاب˓ اینترچنج˓تبعیض}, url = {https://ilt.atu.ac.ir/article_1365.html}, eprint = {https://ilt.atu.ac.ir/article_1365_5ba6ec463bb99f7eb822b63249057950.pdf} }
