However, research on how much the different types of words exert substantial influences over ESP reading comprehension remains scanty. To address this lacuna, the present study aimed to examine the degree of contribution made by general high-frequency, core-academic, and technical-academic words to 127 Iranian learners studying Psychology at three state universities in Tehran, Iran. Three researcher-made and validated tests were used to measure the three aforementioned types of vocabulary knowledge accompanied by an ESP reading test. Data analysis using multiple regression revealed that the core-academic words and technical-academic words significantly contributed to the ESP reading comprehension, explaining about 92% of the variance in reading scores, but knowledge of general high-frequency words was not a significant contributor. Moreover, teaching core-academic and technical-academic words did not have a significant effect on ESP reading comprehension in the short term, yet a low significant difference was observed for technical academic words in the long term. Findings of this study imply that direct teaching of the core-academic and technical-academic words can help ESP learners improve their reading over time. The article ends with pedagogical implications and suggestions for future research.}, keywords = {ESP reading,general high-frequency words,core-academic words,technical-academic words}, title_fa = {سهم واژگان پربسامد عمومی، واژه های اصلی علمی و واژه های علمی فنی در درک مطلب متون انگلیسی برای اهداف ویژه}, abstract_fa = {خواندن مهمترین مهارت مورد نیاز زبان آموزان انگلیسی برای اهداف ویژه در هر رشته تحصیلی است و دانش واژگان، به خودی خود، گسترده ترین موضوع مورد بحث در خواندن موثر می باشد. با این حال، تحقیق در مورد اینکه انواع مختلف واژه ها تا چه حد بر درک مطلب انگلیسی برای اهداف ویژه تأثیر دارند، همچنان ناکافی است. هدف مطالعه حاضر بررسی میزان سهم واژه های پربسامد عمومی، اصلی علمی و علمی فنی در بین 127 زبان آموز ایرانی در رشته روانشناسی در سه دانشگاه دولتی تهران است. سه آزمون محقق ساخته و تایید‌شده برای سنجش سه نوع دانش واژگان فوق الذکر همراه با آزمون خواندن انگلیسی برای اهداف ویژه مورد استفاده قرار گرفت. تجزیه و تحلیل داده ها با استفاده از رگرسیون چندگانه نشان داد که واژه های اصلی علمی و واژه های علمی فنی سهم قابل توجهی در درک مطلب متون انگلیسی برای اهداف ویژه دارند که وجود 92 درصد اختلاف در نمرات خواندن را توضیح می دهد، اما دانش کلمات پربسامد عمومی سهم قابل توجهی نداشت. علاوه بر این، آموزش واژه‌های اصلی علمی و واژه های علمی فنی، در کوتاه مدت تأثیری معناداری بر درک مطلب نداشت، در حالیکه برای واژه های علمی فنی در طولانی مدت، تفاوت معنی داری وجود داشت. یافته های این مطالعه نشان می دهند که آموزش مستقیم واژه های اصلی علمی و واژه های علمی فنی می تواند به زبان آموزان ESP کمک کند که در طول زمان خواندن خود را بهبود ببخشند. مقاله با مفاهیم آموزشی و پیشنهادات برای تحقیقات آینده به پایان می‌رسد.}, keywords_fa = {خواندن انگلیسی برای اهداف ویژه,واژه های پربسامد عمومی,واژه های اصلی علمی,واژه های علمی فنی}, url = {https://ilt.atu.ac.ir/article_10200.html}, eprint = {https://ilt.atu.ac.ir/article_10200_4b6e35e97c3c8cdccfd9124559c97510.pdf} }
